Do male rabbits make better pets than female rabbits? Also, can rabbits be neutered after mating? Or should they be not be allowed to mate if they will be neutered? Thank you in advance for your answers!

Either make great pets. Sometimes males will spray. Neutering usually will help this. Male rabbits can be neutered at any time. There is no set rules to go by. Sometimes there is no need to neuter your boy. If not don't.
Do rabbits need shots like dogs and cats?
Jul. 29, 2010
No, rabbits are very healthy and don't need shots for things.
Do you harvest the wool, and if so, who do you sell it to, or how do you find a buyer for the wool? Thank You for your time.

I clip my wool most of the time with scissors. Occasionally I will pluck but plucking a lot will reduce your under coat and you will end up with mostly guard hair in your coat. That is not a very good coat to have. I sell my extra wool to other spinners and fiber artists. Sometimes I sell on Ebay but only if I have a lot to move at one time. Hope this helps. ;)
How often do Angoras need brushing?
Jul. 29, 2010
It will vary with the breed and age of the Angora. Generally, you will need to brush a baby every few days. An adult will need grooming weekly if it is an English Angora and every couple of weeks with the French, Satin and German Angoras. The English require much more maintenance than the others do.
I am brand new to angoras. I was wondering if there is a way to figure out breeding background without a pedigree. I know the parents but that is about it. I would also like to know if more experienced people ever debate about a rabbit's color. I feel like I'm really confused about the oranges, creams, fawns, and lynx colors. Is this a beginner's issue? I've been researching genetics and colors but I guess you have to know the color of your rabbit before you start. Thanks so much for your website!

Hi Great question!
If your bunny has a tattoo in it's ear you may be able to track down the breeder. If you know the breeder you can always ask them about the bunny. If it was sold as a pet quality bunny them most of the time a pedigree will not be issued. If it was a show quality bunny then there should be a pedigree somewhere. If you know the tattoo numbers of the parents then again you may be able to track the breeders down and ask about their breeding.
Ask far as color there is always a debate going on there. The best thing to do is like you said study genetics some. There are always the groups to ask questions on like All Things Angora, and post a picture to get breeders help. That is usually a good place to start. ;)

I am new to Angora rabbits and just purchased Giant Angoras. My Doe seems very scared right now, when I take her out of her cage she pee's on the tile floor and then sits in it. I know I am not allowed to 'wash' a Angora rabbit. So, how would you handle cleaning her in this situation? I don't want her to smell like urine and cause a mess of her wool coat. thanks! - great website !!!

Sometimes it takes time for a new bunny to get use to you. When she gets wet like that use some corn starch to blot the urine from her wool and bottom. You can use it as often as you need to. If she gets urine burn (red, irritated skin) you can use 50% peroxide/50% water mixture to wash and sooth it. Hope this helps. ;) Thanks!
I am new to raising rabbits and currently have one satin doe. We have one baby that is definitely the "runt". What can I do to help it survive/thrive?
Aug. 10, 2010 by Lindsay Samp, Nebraska
There is nothing really you can do for it other than make sure it gets plenty of food. If it is still nursing you could take it out and hold the doe and let the baby nurse. If it is old enough to ween, put it in a cage by its self. Other than that there is not much you can do. Mother nature has a way of doing things and there may be a reason it is not thriving.
I am new to raising rabbits, it seem my bunny (mr. hop hop) has a weak ear . He does not seem able to hold one of his ears up . can you help?

Hi, If the bunny is still young you can tape it up to the other one and let it stay like that for a couple of weeks. This may help the ear get stronger or it may not work. Some rabbits have a summer ear in hot climates. This does not hurt him for a pet, but just add to his personality and uniqueness. ;)
I have a question about when they are going to have kits, how long does it take?
Aug. 12, 2010 by Tina
It usually takes 30-31 days for the mother to deliver her litter. A new mom may go a day over and that is not uncommon.
